“Bridging Urban America” Movie Screening Features Panel with DRPA Representatives
CAMDEN, N.J. – Representatives from the Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA) will participate in panel discussion following a screening of the film “Bridging Urban America - The Story of Ralph Modjeski” at Drexel University’s Mandell Theatre on Sunday, July 10 at 6 p.m.
“Bridging Urban America” celebrates the life of one of America's greatest bridge designers and some of the 20th century's most significant bridges and how they transformed America, including the Ben Franklin Bridge, San Francisco - Oakland Bay Bridge, Huey P. Long in New Orleans and Quebec Bridge in Canada, among others. The film takes a deeper look at the scientific mind of a virtuoso pianist and artistic soul of a Polish-born, Paris-trained immigrant who contributed to the building of modern America.
A cinematic journey through America, “Bridging Urban America” features magnificent aerial photography, bridge stories and riveting interviews by renowned historians, engineering specialists, architects and cultural figures, including award-winning author and educator Henry Petroski of Duke University, Piotr Moncarz of Stanford University, engineer-pianist Elaine Chew of Queen Mary University of London and photographer David Plowden.
Following the screening, DRPA CEO John Hanson, Chief Engineer Mike Venuto and Senior Engineer Mike Howard will participate in a panel discussion to share the current state of the Ben Franklin Bridge and its historical milestones. Filmmakers, prestigious engineers and a Modjeski descendant will also be on hand to answer audience questions.
The screening will be held on Sunday, July 10 at 6 p.m. in the Mandell Theater, located at 3201 Chestnut Street. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and tickets are available online for $20 and a discounted price of $10 for students at: http://www.bridgingurbanamerica.bpt.me.
