Overnight Painting Work to Slow Commodore Barry Bridge Traffic
Motorists traveling overnight should plan ahead and allow extra travel time as brief traffic holds are scheduled on the Commodore Barry Bridge during the weeks of April 13 and April 20.
The work will take place Monday night through Friday night from 11:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. This will affect both eastbound & westbound traffic.
As part of ongoing bridge painting preparations, crews will temporarily stop traffic in both directions to safely install work platforms for painting work above the roadway.
Expected schedule:
- April 13 to 17 and April 20 to 24
- 11:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.
- Up to three traffic holds per night, each lasting approximately 15 minutes
- Exact timing will vary based on work progress
Work is weather dependent and subject to change.
The Commodore Barry Bridge is undergoing a $220 million multi-year project to paint and rehabilitate the span. This complex effort involves careful planning and staging to maintain traffic flow on the five-lane bridge.
The DRPA appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation as this work advances. Once complete, the project will enhance the safety, reliability, and longevity of the bridge, which serves more than 41,000 vehicles daily.
