John J. Matheussen
John Matheussen was born in Jersey City on January 30, 1953. He attended public schools in Secaucus and Weehawken, and was graduated from Seton Hall University with a degree in communications in 1975. He received his juris docorate from the University of Dayton law School in Dayton, Ohio, in 1978, and was admitted to the bar in 1979.
On April 1, 2003, John assumed the position of Chief Executive Officer of the Delaware River Port Authority and President of PATCO. He serves as Co-Founder and Chairman of the Board of the Home Port Alliance for the USS New Jersey, as a member of the Executive Committee of the Boards of the World Trade Center of Greater Philadelphia, the Boy Scouts of America South Jersey Region, the Philadelphia Sports Congress and the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau, and on the Board of the Southern New Jersey Development Council. He is also a member of the State of New Jersey’s Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness Private Sector Advisory Council, the Philadelphia 2016 Olympic Infrastructure Advisory Committee, the Camden Innovation Advisory Board, Greater Camden Partnership Board, Seamen’s Church Institute Board, the Rowan University Graduate School Advisory Board and he is a member of the St. Augustine Prep Leadership Committee. John is a new member of the NJ Affordable, Clean, Reliable Energy Coalition.
He is the former Chairman of the New Jersey Commission on Business Efficiency of the Public Schools and a former member of the Boards of the New Jersey State Fire Museum and Mainstage Center for the Arts. From 1979-1982, he was Director of Labor Relations and later Corporate Counsel for Hemingway Transport in New Bedford, MA. From 1982 - 1986 he served as Corporate Counsel for National Freight in Vineland, NJ.
He is a four-term New Jersey State Senator, having represented the 4th Legislative District from January of 1992 to May of 2003. John is married to the former Janet M. Reilly. Their children are John, Ashley, and Joseph.
